Winston McKenzie - Independent Parliamentary candidate for Tottenham in the 2010 General Election

Winston McKenzie

What is your vision for Tottenham?

I am interested in engaging the people of Tottenham into aspiring in different ways and profitable directions.  I am interested in investing money into the community to get people out of the doldrums and on to their feet, competing, serving and trading sufficiently that their families are proud of their achievements.

The current downward financial spiral has been engineered by the Bankers worldwide.  But the answers are with us, the people.

What is on the table for us to see?

Firstly I want to open a “Business Activity Centre” in Tottenham.A centre where Entrepreneurs, young or old, new or well-established, can come for hands-on help to promote their businesses or launch their ideas.  I have already established certain business sponsorship by way of substantial core funding which will be readily available for hands-on financial support.I will promote not just a networking centre, but a centre where you can find the secretarial help, book-keepers, accountants, lawyers and other experts you might need, in the field of nursing, child-care and others, on-hand, to lend their knowledge, a day’s work or a few months help, so that others may establish themselves and excel.

But isn’t this just what the government is offering anyway?

No.  Absolutely not.  The Government say they are offering help and training and new schemes, but they offer no commitment at the end of the day, no cash on the table, and no hope for the future.  What good is an Internship to someone unemployed for over six months?  Basically they’re just working for free for a big company trying to save money, with no job at the end of the day!  What people are calling out for is a way to enjoy earning good money, with some form of security, dignity and self-respect.

I offer all the above where the only qualification required is ambition and the will to succeed!

I wish to establish a ground-breaking new idea of “Help” within the business community, where finance will be available to new businesses, small businesses, or well-established businesses with contracts that need fulfilling.  It will revolutionise the concept of Entrepreneurship -  for the ordinary home hairdresser, pet groomer or garden maintenance firm just starting out, or a dress designer who needs help to finance her first Collection for the catwalk, or an individual Artist, Graphic Designer, Handbag Maker, Garden Designer or Interior Decorator looking to promote his latest ideas in a glossy brochure.  Assistance will also be given to established firms, of engineers, keep-fit gyms, confectioners or restaurants, to replace that suddenly needed piece of broken equipment, or team bus, or to a firm of builders or manufacturers with a book full of orders, to pay their salaries and rent until completion of the order and receipt of invoice payments.  These are the firms going out of business today, being reduced to the breadline, or just can’t get started despite their experience and full order books, for lack of a sympathetic banker or expertise help when times are tough.

I am looking to find those entrepreneurs and companies of the future, kick-start their dreams and sustain their soaring ambitions.
