Stimulating Tottenham’s Local Economy

As your Member of Parliament for Tottenham, l will liaise closely with business, schools, colleges, Chambers of Commerce and Haringey Council on how best to market Tottenham and attract commercial investments. I recognise that existing local businesses have a social responsibility to re-invest in their host community in order to stimulate the local economy. I will reward local businesses for their investment in Tottenham.

I will encourage coaching partnerships between educational institutions and local business entrepreneurs offering alternative careers to traditional employment.

I will encourage new business opportunities, and explore the restoration of disused buildings as potential premises for small businesses. New businesses will generate new employment and boost the economy.

In this climate of economic apprehension and with small businesses constantly in danger of collapsing, I will advocate on their behalf and encourage the funding of new businesses and the creation and development of community entrepreneurs.

As your Member of Parliament l will use the privilege of office to organise large scale events alongside the Council and relevant stakeholders that showcase the marketability of Tottenham as a place to do business and use the prestige of the office to support and gain funding open to young people, voluntary organisations and local businesses.

As your Member of Parliament, I will conduct and facilitate workers’ forums and job fairs, inviting industry to speak directly to local people on what potential candidates need to get into their organisations.

Social Responsibility

As your Member of Parliament for Tottenham, it is my responsibility to take the lead in bringing -together the various communities of Tottenham under one banner, “Tottenham together we can make it happen” proud of its diversity and rich culture. We the people of Tottenham: Black, White, Turkish, and Asians must stand together against gun and knife crimes, united against exploitation of new migrants; united for better standards of education, and united against accepting a less favourable health provision.

In order to minimise the risk of social/ethnic pressures, I will initiate a drive to improve social cohesion, and facilitate the regular coming together of the various communities of Tottenham to confront problems and issues of shared interest to ensure we are always moving forward with dignity and integrity.

I will hold myself personally accountable, and encourage others to do likewise. A new group will be formed from a cross section of our Tottenham community, who will hold me to -account and will derive from local people, business community and Faith groups.

As your Member of Parliament it is my duty to place a high priority on educating our children on the areas of gang association and the consequences of anti-social behaviour.

Alongside the current youth offending programmes l will initiate gang intervention schemes and

recognise and reward initiatives that prevent anti-social behaviour in our communities.
