What is the electoral register?

The electoral register is a list of people who have registered to vote. Your name must appear on this register for you to be able to vote.  There are 2 versions of the register – the full version and the edited version.
The full register lists everyone who is entitled to vote in Haringey. Only certain people and organisations can have copies, and it can only be used for specified purposes.

The edited register can be bought and used by anyone for any purpose. You can request not to be listed on the edited version of the electoral register on your voter registration form.

How can I find out if I’m already on the electoral register?

If you’re not sure if your name is on the electoral register you can telephone Haringey’s Electoral Registration Team on 020 8489 2951, or 0845 055 0922.  You can also email them at elections@haringey.gov.uk  or write to them at The Electoral Registration Office, PO Box 264, Civic Centre, High road, London, N22 8LE. They will be able to tell you if your name already appears on the register.

Is it too late for me to register to vote in this years elections?

Yes!
For people who wish to vote in the elections on May 6th 2010, the closing date for voter registration forms to be received by Haringey’s Electoral Registration Office is the 20th April 2010 at 5pm. If you are not yet registered to vote, make sure you get your voter registration form in by this time so you can have your say on May 6th! You can download the voter registration form. click here  Put your name on the electoral register NOW to make sure you don’t miss out on being able to vote!
Once you are on the electoral register you will be sent an electoral registration form in September or October each year. You must fill this out to confirm you are still living at the same address, so that the register can be kept updated.

Why let these three have your say? That's what happens when you don't vote.

Voter turnout in Haringey is traditionally very low – just 35% in the last local elections.
